Fairy Tales
What is a Fairy Tale?
A fairy tale is a short story that usually involves magic, imaginary creatures, and fantastic adventures. These stories often have clear good and evil characters, and they usually teach a moral or lesson. Classic examples include Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White.
Fairy tales often begin with phrases like “Once upon a time…” and end with “…happily ever after.”
For A1 learners (beginner level), fairy tales are very useful because they help develop several important language skills in a fun and simple way:
- Vocabulary building
- Reading comprehension
- Listening and speaking.
- Writing skills.
Using fairy tales in the English classroom is a powerful way to improve language skills, especially for A1-level students. The stories are engaging, easy to understand, and offer many opportunities to practice vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking, and writing—all while enjoying magical adventures.
Here are some fairy tales that take us to magical worlds and teach us important lessons:

2. The Little star and the lost moon
